PONGOLA – The mutilated body of a three year old was found in a disused room at St John’s church, said SAPS spokesperson Thulani Zwane.

The boy had been reported missing by his mother on Wednesday July 2, 2014.

“The community is angry and has burnt down the pastor's house,” said Zwane.

He also added that the pastor of the church was not to be found.

The MEC for Social Development in KwaZulu-Natal, Weziwe Thusi, has called for calm following the gruesome discovery.

Thusi said, "Pure evil comes to mind when I think about this. Whoever is responsible must be found and thrown in jail for the rest of their miserable lives."

Zwane said, “We are still investigating and we have no suspects yet. We are still looking for the rest of the body as some body parts are missing.”

A statement released by the MEC’s office read, “His head, arm, and two legs were found in a bag in a disused room on the premises of the St John’s church.”

The MEC called on the police to leave no stone unturned in their investigation to ensure everyone involved in the horrific crime is found and punished.

The statement noted that the incident has sparked serious tension in the community, and police had been deployed to defuse the situation.
