Saudi teen arrested for publicly doing the Macarena

JEDDAH, Saudi Arabia – He calmly made his way to the middle of a busy intersection. As vehicles pulled up, the 14-year-old began the famous dance, which later got him arrested.

Publicly performing the Macarena in the middle of a busy street in the conservative country warranted his arrest as his actions were described as “improper public behavior” Mecca police said in a statement.

The name and nationality of the boy were not given, and police said he was released without being charged.

According to the local ministry, the teen and his guardian were questioned about his actions, and both signed a pledge agreeing that he would not “engage in behavior that could endanger his life and the life of others again”.

The video was recorded a while ago, however it started making its rounds on social media this week.
