JOHANNESBURG - The National Energy Regulator of SA (Nersa) has given Eskom the go-ahead to consult on its proposed tariff hike for 2018.
The power utility is seeking a 19.9 percent increase for the year that begins on 1 April 2018.

It says the increase will offset financial losses brought on by the technical recession.
The hike will apply only to electricity bought directly from Eskom. Those who get their power from municipalities could pay up to 27.5 percent more.
