Blocked roads, burning tyres in Thokoza protest

JOHANNESBURG -  Thokoza in Ekurhuleni was brought to a standstill on Monday morning when some residents took to the streets.

It was estimated that about 4,000 residents shut down Khumalo Street, using rocks and burning tyres demanding a new hostel be built to accommodate them.

They say a new hostel was promised to them, back in 1994. Residents of neighbouring townships have now joined in the protest.
