JOHANNESBURG - Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane has found that Cooperative Governance Minister Des van Rooyen lied to Parliament.
In her response to a DA complaint, Mkhwebane said Van Rooyen deliberately misled MPs when he answered a question about a meeting with the controversial Gupta family.
The minister claimed he had not visited the family's home in Saxonwold, Johannesburg, since taking office.
But the Public Protector's report found this was a lie that put Van Rooyen in violation of the Executive Ethics Code .
Mkhwebane has ordered the president to take action against Van Rooyen.
Van Rooyen maintains he met with the Guptas in his capacity as treasurer general of the ANC's Military Veterans Association.
