Johannesburg - A handyman who made a living from doing odd jobs, won R6.5 million, by nailing all six numbers in the national lottery, in his sleep.
Tembi Tulwana, spokesperson for national lottery operator Gidani said: “The man who now lives in Johannesburg matched his winning numbers at a shop close to his home.”
He bought a R20 ticket.
“When he realised he had won he hid the ticket in his shoe for safe keeping” Tulwana said.
It’s believed the man, who asked for his identity to be protected, initially told his cousin about his win, before claiming the R6.5 million prize.
The winner said the money would allow him to bring his children to Johannesburg from KwaZulu-Natal and he would put them in the finest schools to be educated.
He also said he didn’t plan on changing his lifestyle too radically.
He said he had a dream that if he played the same numbers he would win. His numbers were 15, 23, 28, 29, 49 and 2.
Tulwana said the man told officials that the money came “at the right time.”
A second winner for the same draw has yet to come forward and claim their prize money.
