Gigaba given a week to explain Myeni's reappointment

File: Finance Minister Malusi Gigaba has been asked to justify the extension of Dudu Myeni's term of office as SAA chairman.

JOHANNESBURG – The parliamentary standing committee on finance has given Finance Minister Malusi Gigaba seven days to provide feedback on the extension of Dudu Myeni's term as chairperson of the South African Airways (SAA) board.

Director-General of finance Dondo Mogajane told the committee on Wednesday told that the contract would continue until the airline's annual general meeting in November.

Chairperson of the committee of finance Yunus Carrim said the committee was concerned about the legality of the extension of Myeni’s contract and therefore believed that the decision must be reviewed.

His committee asked the minister to provide it with all the documents and evidence relating to the extension of Myeni's term of office, including proof of compliance with the provision of the Company’s Act.

“The committee requests that the minister responds to the committee within seven days of receipt of this resolution,” Carrim said.
