CAPE TOWN – Government officially launched the South African Library Week in Cape Town on Friday under the theme Connect at your Library.

The Arts and Culture department said libraries connect people to each other and all South Africans must have access to them.

Rather than discarding old books, people are encouraged to give them to those less fortunate.

"To empower the nation we are starting there in the rural areas putting up libraries in all the provinces because it's a right to read.

“It’s a right that they have libraries," said Arts and Culture deputy Minister Rejoice Mabudafhasi.
