JOHANNESBURG - South Africa’s high commissioner to Singapore has been fired.

Hazel Ngubeni has been investigated following claims that she concealed her criminal history before being appointed.

In October, the Sunday Times reported that she served two years in a New York jail for drug smuggling, while working as an SAA air hostess.

The report claims she said she didn't have a criminal record during the security check for the diplomatic post.

Senior political leadership apparently nominated her for the job.
