JOHANNESBURG - Derek Hanekom has tweeted that he’ll be submitting his letter shortly.
To all media who have been trying to get hold of me today, and wanting interviews: sorry. Been busy. The letter will be submitted today.— Derek Hanekom (@Derek_Hanekom) August 28, 2017
Monday's the deadline for him to provide reasons why he shouldn’t be removed as ANC National Disciplinary Committee Chair.
Secretary General Gwede Mantashe asked Hanekom to explain in writing why he should remain in the position.
Mantashe said Hanekom’s public comments about the no-confidence vote against President Jacob Zuma have jeopardised the disciplinary committee.
Hanekom encouraged ANC MPs to vote for change, saying they’re protected by the secret ballot.
He's also an outspoken critic of President Zuma.
