JOHANNESBURG - A set minimum wage seems to the direction government is taking for the informal industry.

And one of South Africa’s largest industries has welcomed the idea.

Many taxi drivers say they would not mind receiving a set amount due to them each month.

Sinti Chingo gets up at 4am in the morning everyday to hit the road.

Every Monday he receives his thousand rand wages from the taxi owner and makes a little extra if he does more trips in a day.

And while he's able to get by with his weekly wages, other drivers admit that a set minimum wage would be more settling.

"I think it would help a lot because at least you would know how much you are taking home each month and are able to budget."
