More witnesses to be called as Esidimeni hearings continue

JOHANNESBURG - The Life Esidimeni arbitration hearings continue on Tuesday. 

On Monday, a social worker testified that her NGO was pressured to take in more patients than it could accommodate.

Mahlodi Ndhlovu said many of the psychiatric patients were admitted without any medical records.

A total of 141 patients died in Gauteng due to the negligence of the provincial health department.

Ndhlovu said the transfer of psychiatric patients from Life Esidimeni was done in haste.

One family found out about the death of their loved one seven months after they had died.
