JOHANNESBURG - A Johannesburg pastor could find himself in jail for refusing to appear before the Commission for the Protection of Cultural and Religious Rights.

Prophet Samuel Radebe of the Revelation Church of God was due to answer questions at the commission's hearings on Tuesday.

The Chapter 9 institution is investigating the alleged commercialisation of religion and the abuse of beliefs.

Radebe could be facing time behind bars.

He's unwilling to appear before the commission, saying it has no authority to question his church.

Radebe also believes the terms of the investigation are an unwarranted intrusion into his financial affairs.

Meanwhile, Rhema Bible Ministries has received a thumbs-up for its presentation.

The church has also submitted its financial records for scrutiny.

The commission is still facing several challenges -- one of which is trying to locate Pastor Penuel Mnguni.
