UPDATE: Johannesburg stowaway plunges to his death in London

JOHANNESBURG – A man fell and died after hitching a ride in the undercarriage of a British Airways passenger plane travelling from Johannesburg to London on Thursday.

According to SkyNews, two stowaways snuck onto the plane before it flew more than 12,000km from South Africa to Heathrow.

One of them fell and died as the British Airways Boeing 747 came in to land at round 09.30am. The victim fell onto the roof of a shop on London's High Street.

Earlier in the morning, police at Heathrow Airport said they were informed of a suspected stowaway on a flight from Johannesburg to Heathrow.

The man, believed to be in his mid-twenties, was found in the plane's undercarriage and was taken to hospital. His condition is described as critical.

Airports Company SA spokesperson Colin Naidoo said: "We can confirm reports from the London police that there were two stowaways on a plane that landed at Heathrow on Thursday morning. London police and SAPS are investigating the matter. At the moment we don't have exact details as to how they got onto the plane. We are still waiting for a police report."
