JOHANNESBURG – A Metro police officer was wounded in Ivory Park on Monday when suspects opened fire on two officers.

JMPD spokesperson Wayne Minnaar said the suspects, who were travelling in a white Toyota van, fired shots at the officers who had attempted to stop their vehicle.

"When officers approached the occupants of the car, they just opened fire and sped off. They used heavy calibre weapons," said Minnaar.

One officer, who was injured on the right hand and left leg, is in a stable condition. His colleague did not sustain any injuries.

Minnaar added that a case of attempted murder had been opened.
