Train derails in KZN

Emergency workers look for survivors after two trains collided into each other at Groutville, some 60 kilometres north of Durban. Thankfully, there were no fatalities or injuries after a goods train derailed in Margate, also close to Durban, on Monday.

DURBAN - A goods train has derailed near Margate on KwaZulu-Natal’s south coast.

Netcare 911 says it was travelling towards Durban, and derailed near Banana Beach.

Some of the coaches landed in the lagoon under the bridge the train was travelling on.

The cause of the derailment is not yet known.

Paramedics say the units were empty and no one was injured.

The railway track was completely destroyed and has been closed indefinitely.
