JOHANNESBURG - Orlando Pirates ended a 12-match winless run by defeating lower-league outfit Eastern Cape Bees 3-1 Sunday in a South African FA Cup last-32 tie.

The Soweto club had not won since November and the cup tie gave Swedish coach Kjell Jonevret a welcome success after drawing his first three games in charge.

"When it comes to cup ties, the most important thing is to be in the bowl for the next round," said the 54-year-old successor to Turk Muhsin Ertugral.

The previous incumbent quit after Pirates conceded six goals in a league match and caretaker coach Augusto Palacios from Peru also had to endure the humiliation of a six-goal thrashing.

Togolese Dove Wome, Mpho Makola and Thamsanqa Gabuza scored for Pirates and Bongani Chikila briefly raised hopes of a shock by halving a two-goal deficit.

Kaizer Chiefs were impressive 3-0 winners over second-tier Stellenbosch in Cape Town with Venezuelan Gustavo Baez scoring his first goal for the club.

There were two shocks with top-flight clubs Cape Town City and Ajax Cape Town losing to lower division clubs.

Joint Premiership leaders City lost 1-0 at Acornbush United and Ajax were beaten in a penalty shootout after drawing 2-2 at KwaDukuza United.
