Representation in Film | SA actress stomps on critics and shoots for the stars

CAPE TOWN - Actress Chioma Umeala made waves with her work in drama series Isono and movie, the Woman King.

More recently she starred in the Netflix adapation of anime series, One Piece. Her character was initially illustrated as white.

Umeala's been forced to defend her role after criticism on social media at casting a black actor as Nojiko.

But she says she wants to break stereotypes and represent black girls who are passionate about anime and comic books.
