Denis Sssou Nguesso re-elected


Republic of Congo's President Denis Sassou Nguesso announced a referendum on changes to the constitution.

CONGO, BRAZZAVILLE – The Congolese president Denis Sassou Nguesso has been re-elected in a first round of votes, this extends his 32 years in power, the interior minister said Thursday.

Interior minister Raymond Zephyrin Mboulou announced the results on national television at 3.30am giving the incumbent 60 percent of the vote, following elections held on Sunday.

On Wednesday, two opposition candidates rejected the partial results that gave Sassou Nguesso 67 percent of the vote.
