SA delegation in DRC after SANDF sex abuse claims


About 1700 South African soldiers are taking part in Exercise Young Eagle.

JOHANNESBURG - A 15-member delegation from the Portfolio Committee on Defence and Military Veterans has touched down in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) on Sunday.

The delegation will meet with members of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF).

The committee will start the week-long trip in the capital Kinshasa, where they will meet the United Nations (UN) mission.

Officials will then travel to Goma.

Some SANDF members have come under fire after claims of torture and sexual abuse emerged against soldiers stationed in the country.

The troops are in the DRC as part of a UN peacekeeping mission.
