JOHANNESBURG - South Africa is not yet a mafia state, however, it is approaching the tipping point.
That is according to Jenni Irish-Qhobosheane from the Global Initiative Against Transnational Organised Crime.

While the country still mourns the death of rapper AKA, five people have now been killed in Mariannhill in KwaZulu-Natal.
"Organised crime flourishes because of corruption," says Irish-Qhobosheane.
"We do need to look at the whole issue of systemic corruption taking place within the police."
According to Irish-Qhobosheane, corruption allows organised crime to operate in the space where it's operating.
