JOHANNESBURG - The DA has received a massive backlash from the public over its poster blunder.

Political analyst Professor Sipho Seepe says the party showed a lack of empathy in trying to exploit the Phoenix tragedy when they should have been sensitive about it.

Seepe said, "this is an own goal, but it must also be seen in a context of national posture towards what happened in Phoenix."

"We have chosen not talk about it, but it represents a general crisis because there are race issues but there also social issues, but what had shown the DA to be ill-equipped, it’s for its understanding of the impact and the undertone that may have not been spoken about...and what happened here is that the DA just all of us has been haunted by its own misreading and its lack of appreciation that lives were lost."

"We can say DA blundered by trying to exploit the tragedy that occurred without really understanding that it should have been more sensitive about it."
