There are growing concerns that an economy, already under pressure, will be dealt another blow by the rolling blackouts.
Not to mention fears that investors could pull the plug on South Africa.
Business Unity South Africa's Vice President, Martin Kingston, explained the severity of the situation.
"Eskom is probably the most, the single biggest threat to the well-being of the South African economy.
"Load-shedding is a manifestation of its well-being.
"The unexpected level and severity of load-shedding is threatening large and small business.
"Therefore to be plunged into a situation where we are challenged by the availability of electricity at this moment in time is very problematic."
