Drastic decline in COVID-19 cases, media organisation finds

JOHANNESBURG - South Africa is finally free from wearing mandatory masks.

The Bhekisisa Centre for Health Journalism says most people have immunity by now and there has been a drastic decline in COVID-19 cases.

The Health Department gave an update regarding the repealing of regulations.

"I think the reasons mentioned for dropping masks is that we have a decline in cases," Bhekisisa journalist Mia Malan said.

"But more importantly what happens after the infection is now very different from a year ago and that is that fewer people fall very ill and go to hospital and one of the main reasons for that most people in South Africa by now immunity either natural infection or vaccination."
