The embattled utility has said it hopes to sign its first power supply agreement this week.

Mamphweli says, in the long run, it will good for the nation.

He said, "Eskom needs to basically go on a massive maintenance programme and deal with the problems in existing power plants."

"They must be brave and tell the nation they're going on a massive programme while they're subjecting us to load shedding. but they can be built, within two to three months, we can have them on the electricity grid."
