Large gatherings a concern for COVID-19 spread

JOHANNESBURG - The global number of confirmed coronavirus cases has surpassed the 183,000 mark on Tuesday morning.

Cultural expert Professor Sihawukele Ngubane said it will be difficult to observe some of the measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

Among some of the measures announced by President Cyril Ramaphosa gatherings of more than 100 people are prohibited.

Sihawukele Ngubane said, "the government has made a mandate and we have to respect that but for funerals, mainly in rural areas, it is not going to be easy because we are a collective society." 

"We need to practice these cautionary measures and our people must observe them and this information must be communicated in the language of our people."

Ngubane said he did not know whether limiting gatherings to fewer people than 100 would be possible.
