JOHANNESBURG - The court's decision to uphold Ace Magashule's suspension as Secretary-General of the ANC is a victory for President Cyril Ramaphosa according to political commentator, Thabo Shole Mashao.
The High Court in Johannesburg has dismissed, with costs, Magashule's bid to have his suspension overturned.
Mashao says this will embolden Ramaphosa to take further action against the faction opposing him.
He said, "he's weakened. ANC 2, Magashule 0. The first score was suspending Magashule as SG. The second one was the court outcomes. It means he is weaker."
"His support will dwindle a little bit. It says that the CR17 is emboldened, stronger and a faction seen to be with President Ramaphosa is the one that enjoys the balance of forces... he will want to regroup, he will want to gather his strength and his forces, even take it to a higher court, but inside the ANC theire definitely weaker. They were in a general ward of the hospital now they're definitely getting into ICU."
