JOHANNESBURG - South Africa's crime stats are beyond abnormal.
That's the view of the University of Limpopo criminology head, Professor Jaco Barkhuizen.
He says the country's crime-prevention strategy has not been updated since the late 1990s and the latest figures prove a complete failure of policing.
"The crime stats is not abnormal, it's beyond abnormal. It's preternaturally wrong," said Jaco Barkhuizen.
"Murder is increasing to such an extent that no one basically is safe in south Africa. Why is it increasing? well, our crime prevention strategy is old and outdated, the criminal justice system is failing."
