JOHANNESBURG - Discovery Health says COVID-19 deaths could spike.
That is if the country's vaccination programme does not do well.
The owner of South Africa's largest health-insurance administrator is warning that if super-spreader events are not halted before people get vaccinated - things will get worse.
Discovery's Chief Actuary Emile Stipp says the vaccination programme needs to be rolled out quicker.
"What we did when we looked at the data from the end of November to the end of December, we saw that there was a national super spreader event with the start of holidays," says Stipp.
"If the same happens around Easter, then we do foresee a third wave occurring," he adds.
Stipp goes on to say if measures are in place and social gatherings are avoided at that time, the country could possibly avoid a third wave.
