JOHANNESBURG - Higher wage demands will support the case for the Reserve Bank to hike interest rates again this week.

Economists warn that as food and fuel increases continue to bite, workers and labour unions are asking for wage hikes well above inflation.

Many say South Africa is likely to see increased strike action in the coming months with much of the pressure expected to come from the public sector.

Government has rejected a demand from public sector workers for a ten percent increase.

The Revenue Service is currently facing striking workers calling for up to a 12 percent increase in wages.
