JOHANNESBURG - The banking industry says it’s trying its best to ensure compliance with COVID-19 regulations at ATMs but it admits rural and far-flung areas are still a work in progress.

Government this week ordered banks to provide hand sanitisers and disinfect all ATMs.

They are potential super-spreaders of the virus.

Banks failing in terms of compliance will face penalties.
