JOHANNESBURG - Tsogo Sun Hotel chain says further job cuts will be required as the Temporary Employer/Employee Relief Scheme comes to an end.

The hotel chain operates about 100 hotels.

It is already put a freeze on new appointments and cut staff salaries as the COVID-19 pandemic brought travel to a halt.

The group warned in a trading update that revenue is expected to be between 81 percent and 87 percent lower in the half-year to end-September than the previous period.

Local hotels have warned that they will struggle to survive on revenue from the local tourist trade alone.
