Energy crisis must be addressed swiftly - Ramaphosa

JOHANNESBURG - President Cyril Ramaphosa says the energy crisis must be addressed swiftly to revive the economy.

The country saw Stage four blackouts implemented on Wednesday while Stage 3 power cuts continue on Thursday.

"As a country, our challenges predate the pandemic," he said.

"We have experienced low economic growth and high levels of unemployment for many years," he added.

Ramaphosa says this is due to structural constraints that hold the country's economy back.

"There's no doubt that the prospect of continued energy shortfall and further load shedding presents a massive risk to our economy," says Ramaphosa.
