JOHANNESBURG - Government is getting private companies to help import and distribute COVID-19 vaccines.

Tenders have been awarded to the state-backed Biovac Institute, and to Imperial Logistics.

This is in preparation for the nationwide vaccination drive, which is due to begin on 17 May.

The Health Department says successful bidders have been awarded the contracts based on price per delivered vial.

The value of the contracts depends on the volumes they deliver.

The contracts run until the end of 2022.
