JOHANNESBURG - The South African economy grew by 1.1 percent in the first quarter of 2021.

This translates to annual GDP growth of 4.6 percent.

The finance, mining and trade industries were the main drivers of growth.

The figures come just a week after the country's unemployment rate rose to a record 32.6 percent.
