Tavern tragedy | Liquor Traders Council talks tough after 21 teens die

JOHANNESBURG - The National Liquor Traders Council is talking tough on tavern owners who break liquor licence requirements.

This after 21 teenagers died at a tavern in the Eastern Cape in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Their age and their time of death point to potential non-compliance with laws governing taverns.

The National Liquor Traders' Council's Lucky Ntimane said: "You cannot have an instance where someone operates a tavern at 4am. It cannot be... this should be condemned in the strongest possible terms."

"We do not support anyone who operates outside regulated licence laws of the specific province as it were this is a massacre."
