JOHANNESBURG - The Meat Processors Association is calling on the government to be more creative after the recent looting and this week's cyberattack on Transnet's national operations.
There has been discussion about relocating sealed cold storage containers to inland locations, as those in KwaZulu-Natal have been severely damaged by the recent unrest.
Transnet was hit by a major cyberattack last week, forcing it to declare force majeure and switch to manual systems.
It has since restored many of its port operations after the attack.
Meat importers say the backlog will have dire consequences including the shortage of chicken and polony.
