Competition Commission eyes dominant online stores

JOHANNESBURG - Local online retailers and companies such as UberEats and Takealot.com are next in line for a Competition Commission market inquiry.

The commission says it is being proactive with the inquiry because global experience shows a few platforms tend to start dominating online commerce.

It cites the features of online markets and in some cases the conduct of the markets themselves.

The commission says it wants to ensure markets remain contestable and competitive, which is in the long-term best interests of South African consumers and businesses.
