Over 11 million people in SA unemployed: report

JOHANNESBURG - The unemployment rate increased significantly in the third quarter.

This is according to the latest Quarterly Labour Force Survey released by Stats SA.

South Africa's unemployment rate increased by 7,5 percentage points to 30,8 percent.

The expanded unofficial employment rate is 43.1 percent.

Stats SA said 11.1 million working-age people are unemployed.

The previous rate -- between April and June -- was heavily distorted because people stayed home and didn't look for work.

More than 2.3 million people lost their jobs between April and March.
