JOHANNESBURG - Motorists can look forward to an early Christmas present next week.

This will be a welcome relief after a year of record-high fuel prices.

Petrol and diesel prices are expected to drop by way more than R1 a litre next week.

Unaudited numbers from the Central Energy Fund show a decrease of R1.85 per litre in the price of petrol.

The diesel price will come down by an estimated R1.40 while illuminating paraffin is expected to drop by R1.28.

The price reduction is due to a stronger rand and lower international oil prices.

The Energy Department is expected to announce the changes by the end of the week.

The lower fuel prices will be implemented from next Wednesday.
