The official unemployment rate is now the highest since 2008.
JOHANNESBURG - The country's official unemployment rate jumped to 29 percent in the second quarter of the year, the highest joblessness rate since 2008.
Stats SA released the figures a short while ago.
The rate was 27.6 percent in the first quarter increasing by 1.4 percentage points.
The officials figures indicate that 6.7 million people are now unemployed.
That number is approximately 10 million, when discouraged workers are included.
