JOHANNESBURG – South African Airways employees have until close of business on Friday to decide on retrenchment packages offered by the airline's business rescue practitioners.

More than 4,000 staffers could be out of jobs.

The business rescue practitioners issued management and unions notices to terminate contracts of employees but, the unions are against the proposed retrenchments.

They claim the embattled airline can still be saved.

The national carrier was placed under business rescue last year.

SAA has accumulated debt of over R20-billion.
