JOHANNESBURG - Stats SA will release the GDP figures for the first quarter of 2020 on Tuesday as the country battles COVID-19.

The economy contracted by 1.4%in the last quarter of 2019.

The overall economic growth was 0.2%.

South Africa's economic growth rate has been slow in the past five years.

There are fears that things will get worse this year due to the coronavirus with some companies closing down while others cut jobs and salaries.
