CAPE TOWN - The world's second-largest brewer, Heineken, has its eye on a majority stake in Distell.

Distell is one of South Africa's biggest wines and spirits makers, and own brands like Savanna, Bernini and Three Ships Whiskey.

Distell confirmed that discussions with Heineken are part of normal reviewing of inorganic growth opportunities.

Heineken isn't the only one who's been interested in the drinks maker.

In 2017, the PIC increased its stake after changes to Distell's ownership structure.

If successful, an acquisition would be Heineken’s most significant transaction since 2018.

That's when it finalised a partnership with China Resources Beer Holdings, which makes China's most popular and best-selling beer.
