JOHANNESBURG - It has staged countless international expos and sell-out concerts.
But now, the Ticketpro Dome in Johannesburg is shutting its doors.
The owner -- Sasol Pension Fund -- has sold the arena to a company that does not operate in the events space.
RX Venue Management says the lockdown-related ban on public gatherings meant the Dome could not fully operate since restrictions came into place last year.
It warned the fate of the Ticketpro Dome is an alarm bell for the events industry.
It's called on government to address the dire situation for businesses in this sector.
Black Coffee, Katy Perry, and Lionel Richie were among the sell-out artists who performed at the venue.
It is with a heavy heart that RX Venue Management today announces that after 20 years of being the management company of South Africa’s largest multipurpose indoor arena, The Ticketpro Dome has now been sold by the owners, Sasol Pension Fund. pic.twitter.com/ktwg6BUl3D— Ticketpro Dome (@Ticketprodome) July 19, 2021
