JOHANNESBURG - Cash-strapped South Africans may have to dig even deeper into their pockets.

Eskom is asking the National Energy Regulator for a 15 percent tariff increase per year for the next three years and this is not part of the additional 4.1 percent that's already been granted for the utility to claw back more than R30-billion over the next four years.

That will come into effect in April next year and could mean consumers will pay almost 20 percent more for electricity in the next few years.
