HARARE - A Zimbabwean deputy minister arrested on allegations of stealing 700 bags of fertiliser and 30 tons of maize seeds meant for rural farmers, has been fired.
President Emmerson Mnangagwa says Douglas Karoro is unfit to be in his role in the Lands and agriculture department.
Karoro appeared in court for allegedly stealing 700 bags of fertiliser and 5000 Maize seeds combos.
He is been charged with fraud.
However civil society groups and human rights lawyers says Mnangagwa's expulsion is just a political gimmick ahead of elections next year.
Some described Karoro as a petty thief who is just being sacrificed.
Karoro and his two accomplices are out on bail.
