In 2001, a law that requires that a Medical Officer be present for any circumcision was passed by government . However, traditional leaders say it is an infringement to their community rights. Circumcision is a traditional rite of passage for many boys in South Africa, but with so many deaths reported , authorities have long campaigned to stop botched initiation ceremonies. Shouldn’t government ban these initiation schools ?
