The Griekwastad teen accused of killing the Steenkamp family has been sentenced to 20 years effectively.
KIMBERLEY – The 17-year old Griekwastad farm murderer has been sentenced to 20 years for each of the three Steenkamp family murders, another 12 years for raping the daughter and a further four years for lying to the police.
All the sentences will run concurrently and are backdated to March this year - when he was convicted.
The boy, who cannot yet be identified as he will only turn 18 on Friday, was not used by anyone else, not influenced by anyone and was alone when he committed the murders, Northern Cape Judge President Frans Kgomo said on Wednesday.
Kgomo was delivering sentence in the trial of the schoolboy found guilty of multiple murders. He found that the boy had shown absolutely no remorse.
"I am satisfied that he was not influence by anybody else in committing the crimes."
Kgomo said the boy had tried to falsely implicate others in his explanation of possible reasons for what happened on the Steenkamp farm on the night of the murders.
Earlier this year the court found the boy guilty of murdering Griekwastad farmer Deon Steenkamp, 44, his wife Christel, 43, and their daughter Marthella, 14. The boy also raped Marthella.
They were shot dead on their farm Naauwhoek on April 6, 2012. The killer was 15 years old at the time.
