LADYSMITH - The KwaZulu-Natal government will be writing to President Cyril Ramaphosa to ask for a special official funeral to honour late Ladysmith Black Mambazo founder, Joseph Shabalala.
He died on Tuesday morning in a Pretoria hospital.
Tributes continue to pour in for the internationally-renowned music maestro.
The provincial government says Shabalala is a legend who should be given a befitting send-off.
"As the provincial government, we will now start with plans to engage the President, write to him and ask that Shabalala be honoured with a special funeral because the whole world will be watching his funeral," said KZN Arts and Culture MEC Hlengiwe Mavimbela.
Shabalala will be laid to rest on 22 February in Ladysmith.
