Calls for official funeral for Joseph Shabalala

LADYSMITH - The KwaZulu-Natal government will be writing to President Cyril Ramaphosa to ask for a special official funeral to honour late Ladysmith Black Mambazo founder, Joseph Shabalala.                                                       

He died on Tuesday morning in a Pretoria hospital.

Tributes continue to pour in for the internationally-renowned music maestro.                                                                             

The provincial government says Shabalala is a legend who should be given a befitting send-off.

"As the provincial government, we will now start with plans to engage the President, write to him and ask that Shabalala be honoured with a special funeral because the whole world will be watching his funeral," said KZN Arts and Culture MEC Hlengiwe Mavimbela.            

Shabalala will be laid to rest on 22 February in Ladysmith.
